The hot corner is loaded with talented players at the big league level. When you rattle off the names, it’s easy to forget Eugenio Suarez, the third baseman of the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez is not as sexy of a name as Manny Machado or Josh Donaldson, but he’s a great underrated play. With a breakout year in 2017, Suarez established himself as an above-average bat, and at just 26 years of age is still young enough to enjoy improvements across his game. While not the highest Dober Fantasy Points earner at the position, he’s a good sleeper pick and a nice value play at a deep position.

2017: Overlooked at the hot corner, Suarez averaged more Dober Fantasy Points in 2017 than Evan Longoria, Kyle Seager and Jedd Gyorko. Playing on a bad team, Suarez still drove in 82 runs and scored 87 more. He produced a 3.7 rWAR and a .260/.367/.461 slash line for an .828 OPS and 115 OPS+. He struck out 147 times, but he made up for it with 84 walks. He showed a ton of patience, a huge adjustment from 2016, improving his average-to-OBP gap from 69 points to 107. The young infielder improved as the season wore on with a .796 first-half OPS and an .867 second-half OPS, showing more power and a better eye. One thing that he struggled with, however, was playing away from home. Cincinnati is a hitter’s paradise and his .978 OPS shows it. He hit .248 on the road with a .694 OPS and only five of his 26 homers.
