The Los Angeles Dodgers were the best team in the 2017 regular season, but they were a .500 squad for the first month of the season. Cody Bellinger made his debut on April 25, 2017, and almost immediately the Dodgers took off. If not for Aaron Judge, Bellinger’s rookie campaign would be one of legend. Belting 39 homers in 480 at-bats, Bellinger produced yet another NL Rookie of the Year for Los Angeles. Can he repeat his performance in 2018, or will the league catch up to him and adjust? We shall see, but the future is certainly bright for this young, powerful talent.

2017: Bellinger hit .343 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 18 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, showing he was more than ready for a test at the big-league level. When Adrian Gonzalez went down, Bellinger got his chance and made the most of it. Expected to be a temporary call-up, the 21-year-old wouldn’t allow the team to demote him. He had two multi-homer games within his first 10 starts and had 24 home runs by June 25. His power did recede a bit in the second half of the season, though his average went up a bit and he still had a .901 OPS after the All-Star break. Overall, the youngster produced a .267/.352/.581 slash line with 39 homers and 97 RBIs. He notched 128 hits with 69 going for extra bases. He also showed extraordinary consistency between his home/road splits and his numbers against both lefties and righties. His performance in the World Series notwithstanding, the only knock on his season was perhaps the strikeout numbers.
