In 2016, Bruce Arians had his first losing season as the head man for the Arizona Cardinals.
The Cards had their worst defensive outing since 2010, and the offense wasn’t able to cover for its counterpart. Larry Fitzgerald continued to put up great numbers, but both John Brown and Michael Floyd had hugely disappointing years.
The Cardinals turned to David Johnson more than anyone else last year. Johnson was able to keep the chains moving as a reliable runner and receiver. He was the most valuable man in fantasy football last season with 24.85 Dober Fantasy Points a game. Catching 80 passes is crazy for a running back, but his 20 total touchdowns was where he really shined. He is still young and can carry the load like this a few more years.
JJ Nelson took a nice step forward last season. Nelson was relied upon more and more as the season went along, and he got a bump in production when Michael Floyd left. Nelson should end up being the No. 2 in Arizona by the time the season rolls around. John Brown is having to deal with complications from sickle cell anemia and the team needs someone to line up opposite Fitzgerald. Nelson will be the primary beneficiary here.
