Games that don't produce any touchdowns are almost always horrendous duds for fantasy footballers. Sunday afternoon's soiree against the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills was no different. The Panthers are 2-0 after a 9-3 victory, but there is a lot left to be desired in both locker rooms.
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised about the defensive nature of this game, knowing that Sean McDermott helped craft that Carolina defense and now is doing the same in Buffalo. But what we saw was probably more bad offense than good defense.
Cam Newton did his part, throwing for 228 yards and rushing for 27 more. His 11.82 Dober Fantasy Points weren't earthshattering, but on a day when double-digit scorers were few and far between, he was the MVP.
Unfortunately for Newton, he lost his most reliable receiver, Greg Olsen. Olsen suffered a broken foot in the second quarter. The dependable tight end was originally considered probable to return, but in the second half he was in street clothes and donning a walking boot with crutches. Prior to his injury, he had just one catch for 10 yards.
Buffalo didn't have a single play of more than 15 yards the entire game, and the only man who had more than 50 yards from scrimmage was Tyrod Taylor with 55 yards on the ground.
