Wheaton practiced Thursday for the first time since suffering a broken finger Aug. 13 on his second day back at practice after missing two weeks while recovering from an appendectomy. He was expected to miss the first week or two of the regular season, but it now seems he at least has some chance to line up for the receiver-needy Bears in Week 1. Wheaton might have a limited role if he plays, as his finger probably isn't 100 percent healthy and he still hasn't had much of a chance to develop chemistry with Mike Glennon. The Bears would still be glad to have him available, having lost Cameron Meredith (knee) for the year.
