The team plans to release Robert Griffin and hopes to trade the recently-acquired Brock Osweiler. If both moves go through, Kessler and Kevin Hogan will be the remaining quarterbacks ahead of a draft that's weak at the position. A 2016 third-round selection, Kessler displayed some promise in limited action as a rookie, completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 7.1 yards per attempt, with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He was good enough to get another shot, but not quite impressive enough to preclude the addition of competition.
