In one of the marquee matchups of Week 9, the Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Dallas to take on the resurgent Cowboys.
After a 5-0 start, the Chiefs stumbled in games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders. They righted the ship last week in a dominant effort over the Denver Broncos, though, to improve to 6-3. Neither the Kansas City offense nor defense has been great over the last month, but the Chiefs have done enough to keep games competitive.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys came out of their Week 6 bye with guns blazing. They put up 40 and 33 points against the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins, respectively, and won those contests by a combined 44 points. Dallas will try to continue its winning ways without Ezekiel Elliott, who will likely miss the next six games with a suspension.
Kansas City Chiefs Week 9 Projected Fantasy Points
Alex Smith: 17.0 PFP
Kareem Hunt: 15.0 PFP
Harrison Butker: 12.5 PFP
Tyreek Hill: 12.5 PFP
Travis Kelce: 9.5 PFP
Albert Wilson: 6.0 PFP
Dallas Cowboys Week 9 Projected Fantasy Points
Dak Prescott: 18.0 PFP
Dez Bryant: 12.5 PFP
Mike Nugent: 11.0 PFP
Jason Witten: 9.0 PFP
Cole Beasley: 7.0 PFP
Terrence Williams: 7.0 PFP
Darren McFadden: 5.5 PFP
Alfred Morris: 5.0 PFP
Start 'Em: Travis Kelce (9.5 PFP)
In his last seven games, Kelce has scored double-digit Dober Fantasy Points five times. He leads all Chiefs players in targets over that span and figures to be a big part of the offensive attack in a game with one of the highest projected point totals of the week. When the Chiefs get close to the end zone, Kelce is the player Alex Smith looks to the most, with eight targets in the red zone. Given that he is averaging better than 12.5 DFP per game this season, the big tight end should have no problem getting over 9.5 DFP in a matchup against a below-average defense.
Sit 'Em: Kareem Hunt (15.0 PFP)
After a scorching start to the season, Hunt has been merely mortal over the last five games. He hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 3 and hasn’t eclipsed 15.0 DFP in that time. While he certainly has the talent to end both of those streaks, this looks like a game in which Kansas City needs to throw the ball to keep pace with a potent Dallas offense. Truthfully, we don’t want to fade anyone in a game with such high potential for a shoot-out, but Hunt would be our choice if you held our feet to the fire.
Start 'Em: Dez Bryant (12.5 PFP)
Despite playing fewer games than many others thanks to an early bye week, Bryant has two more red zone targets than any player in the league. With great size, hands and catch radius, he has parlayed those targets into four touchdowns in his last six games. Though he hasn’t been racking up the yardage we’ve seen in years past, there is a good chance that changes with Elliott suspended. Whoever runs the ball for Dallas won’t be anywhere near as dynamic as Zeke, and the Cowboys will have to rely on Prescott and Bryant to carry the offense. Look for Bryant to feast against a Kansas City secondary that has given up the fourth-most yards in the league and 14 receiving touchdowns already this season.
Sit 'Em: Cole Beasley (7.0 PFP)
A better real-life than fantasy player, Beasley doesn’t have enough of a presence in the Dallas offense to endorse him at 7.0 PFP. Apart from a fluky two-touchdown game against the Green Bay Packers, Beasley has yet to eclipse 7.0 DFP this season. In addition, he’s caught more than three passes only twice and hasn’t had more than 33 yards in a game. Though Prescott will probably see an up-tick in pass attempts this week, we recommend fading Beasley on Dober Play Cards.
