New England Patriots - Fantasy News

The statistics will tell you that Chris Hogan was Tom Brady's fourth-best passing option this year with the New England Patriots. With just 439 yards to his name, Hogan was far from an impact player over the course of much of the season.

But it's worth remembering that Hogan sat out the entire month of November and some of December with a shoulder injury, limiting him to just nine games this season.

Hogan has been rather silent in the playoffs, but two weeks to get back on his feet between the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles could do his Dober Fantasy players wonders against his Projected Fantasy Points total of 6.0.

Why Should I Start Chris Hogan?

Hogan might not be an elite receiver, but he was certainly more useful than he proved for much of this year.

That said, if you prorate his numbers over the course of a 16-game season, Hogan would have had 60 catches, 780 yards and nine touchdowns — numbers that would have put him in the top-20 in fantasy receivers at Dober Games.

More encouraging is the fact that Brady seems to look Hogan's way a ton in the red zone. He had 13 red zone targets in his nine games, an average of 1.44 per contest. In comparison, Rob Gronkowski, one of the most-used receivers in the red zone in football, also averaged 1.44 red zone targets per week.

Though Brady only completed 7-of-13 passes in the red area to Hogan, all of those looks tell us that he could be a boom candidate against such a low PFP total.

Why Should I Bench Chris Hogan?

Hogan did score a touchdown against the Titans in the Divisional round of the playoffs, but he only has three catches for 24 yards in the postseason.

Brady has targeted Hogan enough times to beat PFP totals with regularity, but the bottom line is that he has just four catches on 13 targets in his last three games dating back to the end of the regular season.

Hogan just hasn't looked right since this shoulder injury, and the emergence of James White as a receiver in New England’s passing game has really taken away his looks.

Should I Make Chris Hogan a Super Bowl Fantasy Pick?

Yes, simply because there are two paths to victory for Hogan in Super Bowl LII.

Hogan could just have one catch for a touchdown like he had against Tennessee to beat his PFP total, or he could amass five catches for 40 yards.

Let's remember that the Eagles are going to do what they can to limit deep passes with their pass rush. Hogan is second in line to Danny Amendola in the New England short passing game on the outside, but Hogan is going to get his looks as well.

We're confident that the couple weeks off could be just what the doctor ordered to get Hogan back on track and back in the win column on Dober Play Cards.
