For the first time in his career, Mitchell Trubisky was asked to put the ball in the air for more than half of the Chicago Bears' offensive plays.
The results were rather predictable.
Though the Bears hung in there against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8, but they were never ahead in a 20-14 loss in the Bayou.
Perhaps the worst news for the Bears came in the form of injuries that could be season-threatening to two their best offensive players, Kyle Long and Zach Miller. In a year that the wide receivers have given virtually zero to this offense, losing Miller could be crucial.
Trubisky went just 14-for-32 for 164 yards and an interception, but he did add 53 yards on three rushes.
The Saints made some uncharacteristic mistakes against Chicago. Mark Ingram lost two fumbles, though his day was salvaged with a rushing touchdown late in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, two golden opportunities to put touchdowns on the board in the fourth quarter resulted in a pair of Wil Lutz field goals.
Drew Brees was 23-for-28 and came just a yard shy of his bonus point at Dober Games for reaching 300+ passing yards. In this game, Brees became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to complete 6,000 passes.
