Simek tallied a goal and an assist over eight contests with the Czech Republic team in the 2017 IIHF World Championship, earning himself a contract that could result in the 24-year-old playing in the NHL. He's spent the last five seasons playing for HC Bili Tygri Liberec of the Czech Extraliga, the Czech Republic's top level of competition. Over 42 contests last season, the blueliner recorded 24 points (11 goals 13 assists) and earned a plus-18 rating on the campaign. He's expected to begin 2017-18 with AHL San Jose, but he may receive an opportunity to compete for a roster spot.
