The Arizona Cardinals already have some big problems on offense one week into the 2017 season.
David Johnson suffered a wrist injury in the third quarter of a 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. The loss of Johnson, though, might end up meaning a lot more than the loss of the actual game in Motown.
Johnson wasn't a complete bust in spite of his 23 rushing yards on the day. He did tie Larry Fitzgerald for the team lead in receptions with six, and he was just behind Fitzgerald's 74 yards with 68 of his own. But both were dwarfed by J.J. Nelson, who accounted for Carson Palmer's one touchdown pass.
The star of this show was rookie Kenny Golladay. We've seen rookies have big Week 1s before, only to taper out as the year wore on, but Golladay looked the part of a No. 1 receiver in this one.
Golladay caught two passes, including half of Matt Stafford's four touchdown passes. Both of Golladay's scores came in the fourth quarter, one of the dazzling, fully sprawled variety, in a game that was 17-15 in favor of Arizona at the end of the third. But three touchdowns in a span of just 5:24 was enough to take Detroit from trailing to a comfortable winner.
