Jones is the first player league-wide to be designated as his team's franchise player, which will give him until July 15 to negotiate a long-term deal with the Cardinals. For a player at his position, if Jones is unable to secure such a deal by then, he'll be slated to play under a tender offer of over $14 million for the 2017 campaign. After being traded from the Patriots prior to this past season, Jones went on to post 49 tackles, 11 sacks, and four forced fumbles for the Cardinals. News of Jones' franchise tag comes on his 27th birthday, marking the prime of a career that's already included at least 11 sacks in three of the last four seasons.
