Earlier projections suggested that Johnson would miss 8-to-12 weeks while recovering from surgery, but Rapoport's report intimates that the running back is likely trending toward the longer side of that timetable. At this point, it looks as though Johnson, who would have been eligible to come off IR and play as soon as Nov. 9 against the Seahawks, will target the Cardinals' Week 13 game against the Rams on Dec. 3 for his return to the field. If that return date holds true, Johnson would be able to make five appearances before the regular season ends, which may be enough games for fantasy owners to justify rostering him for the duration of his absence. While Johnson is sidelined, Kerwynn Williams could receive the first crack at serving as the Cardinals' lead back. If Williams falters in that capacity, Andre Ellington and the newly re-signed Chris Johnson could notice a positive bump in their snap counts.
